What are procedural deadlines?
Procedural deadlines are time periods established by law to perform certain judicial actions. They are counted in working days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and other days declared non-working according to the jurisdictional order and type of procedure.
What days are non-working in civil order?
In civil order, for urgent proceedings, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and the period from December 24 to January 6 (both inclusive) are non-working, with August being working. For other procedures, August is also non-working.
How are deadlines calculated in criminal order?
In criminal order, for criminal case instruction all days and hours are working without special authorization. For other criminal procedures, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, August and December 24 to January 6 are non-working, except urgent proceedings.
What changes did Organic Law 14/2022 introduce?
LO 14/2022, of December 22, declared the Christmas period (from December 24 to January 6, both inclusive) non-working for all judicial proceedings, except those declared urgent. This reform came into force on December 23, 2022.
Is August always non-working?
No. In civil order for urgent proceedings, August is working. In contentious-administrative order, August is working for fundamental rights protection procedures. In labor order, it is working for dismissals, holidays, collective disputes and other procedures specified in art. 43.4 LJS. In criminal instruction, all days are working.

How are deadlines counted by months?
Deadlines set by months or years are counted from date to date. When there is no equivalent day in the expiration month to the initial day of the count, the deadline is understood to expire on the last day of the month (art. 133.2 LEC).
What happens if the deadline expires on a non-working day?
According to art. 133.2 LEC (applicable by supplementary application to other orders), deadlines that end on Saturday, Sunday or another non-working day shall be deemed extended until the next working day.
